Rita’s Celebrity Scooper night raised money and awareness for Hospice

Newton, NJ – September 20, 2013 – Rita’s, famous for its Italian ice and frozen custard, owner Joe Toscano wanted to help with the Home for Hospice campaign and held a fundraiser for the Karen Ann Quinlan Home for Hospice at its Sparta store in the Sparta Theatre Centre.

Hospice and Rita’s recruited several Celebrity Scoopers who scooped out the goodies and served the frozen treats to hungry customers. They include Julia Quinlan, Co-founder and President of Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice, board member Mary Ellen Quinlan, board member and former Freeholder Glen Vetrano, Senator Steve Oroho, Assemblywoman Alison Littell McHose, Surrogate Gary Chiusano, and Lakeland Bank’s Ray Cordts. Several Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice staff members were also on hand to help with the fundraising chores.

Approximately 175 people attended the event and some were surprised to see their Senator, Assemblywoman, and other recognizable faces scooping up the delights.

Glenn Lewis, Capital Campaign Director said, “It’s gratifying that our elected officials and active business people, whose calendars are packed with obligations, came out in support of this Hospice event, and in some cases even brought family members with them. I also want to thank the 175 or so members of the community who attended the event, and the Toscano family who owns Rita’s for their generosity.” The Karen Ann Quinlan Home for Hospice received $400 toward the construction of their new facility.
